The company’s first production was the play “8 Women,” which was the first and only Ethiopian theatre play composed entirely of women, from translation to production to direction and acting. Since then, the company has produced numerous plays, including “Diaspora,” “Yemist Yaleh,” and “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Additionally, MiRa Studios has produced films, TV series, radio programs, and international performing art festivals. In 2022, the company was rebranded as MiRa Studios. Today, MiRa Studios is a leading production company that is managed by Azeb Worku, a highly respected playwright, TV series writer, director, producer, actress, and radio personality. Azeb Worku is an accomplished Ethiopian writer, producer, director, actress, and radio and TV host, born in Addis Ababa in 1975. She is married and a mother to an 18-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.
With a passion for storytelling, Azeb has made significant contributions to the arts and media industry in Ethiopia.Azeb began her career as an actress and won Best Female Actress at the 7th Ethiopian Film Festival. She
later became a producer, writer, director, and TV and radio show host, recognizing the challenges women face in any profession, especially in the arts and media.
In 2006, Azeb produced and directed the play “8 Women,” which had an all-female cast and was the first of its kind in Ethiopia. In 2009, she co-wrote and co-directed a successful play “Diaspora” that was produced in Ethiopia and the USA. In 2011, she translated a French stage play ”Yemist yaleh” into Amharic and published it as a book, online, and on DVD, marking the first time a stage play became available on DVD in Ethiopia.
Azeb has written and produced several award-winning films and TV shows, including ’Gemena 2,’’ a popular TV series. “Dana”, and she wrote a TV series drama “Eregnaye“, along with two other female professionals. Eregnaye Tv series aired on ARTS TV and has captivated over a hu

She translated a book called “Le Berger devenu chirurgien,” calling it “Eregnaw Hakim”.
In 2018, she produced and directed “Cyrano de Bergerac” theater and staged it at the Ethiopian national theater. To raise awareness on gender issues such as violence against women, she wrote and directed a short movie ”Bitihones”. Between 2020 and 2022, she produced and hosted a widely acclaimed Tv talk show entitled “Arts weg”.
Azeb Worku was the CEO of Arts Tv. She successfully led a TV company in an industry dominated by men, demonstrating her strength and resilience as a woman leader.

In addition to her contributions to the arts and media industry, Azeb is a philanthropist and a vocal advocate for women’s rights in Ethiopia. Her inspiring achievements have been featured in the Amharic single copy not-for-profit collection of 50 women’s stories called Temsalet, meaning “The Role Models.”
In 2020, she received the medal of the French order of arts and letters.
In recognition of her outstanding achievements, she also received the 2015 Women of Excellence award of AWIB Ethiopia, highlighting her role as a trailblazer and a leader.
